Learn about the different ways to access Natter, how authentication works, and how to resolve common login and Single Sign-On (SSO) issues.

Ways to Access Natter

Organisations can configure Natter in different ways depending on their security requirements and preferred authentication methods. As a result, the login options available to you may differ from those available to other organisations.

Email & Password

Some users access Natter using a traditional email address and password combination.

Enter your registered email address and password on the Natter login page to access your account.

If you have forgotten your password, use the password reset option to regain access.

Magic Link

Magic Links allow users to sign in without creating or remembering a password.

After entering your email address, Natter sends a secure login link directly to your inbox. Selecting the link will authenticate you and sign you into the platform.

If you do not receive the email:

  • Check your spam or junk folder

  • Confirm the email address entered is correct

  • Allow a few minutes for delivery

Google & Microsoft Sign-In

Some organisations allow users to authenticate using their existing Google or Microsoft accounts.

Selecting one of these options redirects you to the chosen provider where you can authenticate using your existing credentials before returning to Natter.

Before signing in, ensure you are using the correct Google or Microsoft account associated with your organisation.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

Many organisations choose to integrate Natter with their existing identity provider using Single Sign-On (SSO).

In these environments, users are typically asked to enter their email address before authentication begins. Natter uses this information to identify the organisation and redirect the user to the correct authentication provider.

Depending on your organisation, this may include:

  • Okta

  • Microsoft Entra ID

  • Google Workspace

  • Other SAML-compatible identity providers

This behaviour is expected and helps ensure users are directed to the correct login experience.

Common Authentication Issues

Why Am I Being Asked For My Email Address?

For organisations using Single Sign-On, entering your email address is typically the first step of the authentication process.

Natter uses your email domain to determine which organisation you belong to and which authentication provider should be used.

Once identified, you will be redirected to your organisation's login page to complete authentication.

I Cannot Sign In

If you are unable to sign in, first confirm that:

  • You are using the correct email address

  • You are using the authentication method expected by your organisation

  • Your account has been granted access to Natter

If your organisation manages user access centrally, your internal IT team may need to verify that your account has been provisioned correctly.

I Am Stuck In A Login Loop

A login loop occurs when authentication appears to succeed but you are repeatedly returned to the login screen.

This can sometimes be caused by:

  • Expired authentication sessions

  • Browser cache or cookies

  • Multiple signed-in accounts

  • Browser extensions or security software

Closing and reopening your browser, clearing cached data, or testing in a private/incognito window will often resolve this issue.

My Colleague Can Access Natter But I Cannot

If another user within your organisation can access Natter successfully while you cannot, the issue is often related to account configuration rather than platform availability.

Possible causes include:

  • Access has not been assigned to your account

  • You are using a different email address or domain

  • Your identity provider is not recognising your account correctly

  • Your organisation's authentication policies differ between user groups

Your internal IT team can usually help verify account configuration and access permissions.

I Successfully Logged In But Cannot Access My Session

Authentication and session access are separate processes.

It is possible to successfully sign into Natter but still be unable to access a specific session if:

  • The session has expired

  • The session link is incorrect

  • Access has been restricted by the organiser

  • Your account has not been granted permission to join

If you believe you should have access, contact the organiser or Natter Support.

Guest Participants

Some Natter sessions include external participants who are not part of the host organisation.

Authentication requirements may differ depending on how the session has been configured. If you are joining as a guest participant, follow the instructions provided in your invitation and contact the organiser if you are unsure which login method should be used.

When Should I Contact My IT Team?

Consider contacting your IT team if:

  • Your organisation uses Single Sign-On (SSO)

  • Authentication succeeds for some users but not others

  • You believe your account has not been provisioned correctly

  • Your identity provider displays authentication errors

  • You are unable to complete your organisation's login process

When Should I Contact Natter Support?

Please contact Natter Support if:

  • You are unsure which authentication method should be used

  • You continue to experience login issues after following the guidance above

  • You believe the issue relates to the Natter platform itself

  • You have received a session invitation but are unable to access it
