Supported Browsers

Natter is designed to work with modern web browsers that support real-time audio, video, and data communication.

We support current versions of:

  • Google Chrome

  • Microsoft Edge

  • Mozilla Firefox

  • Safari

For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser and operating system updated to the latest available version.

If your browser is significantly out of date, some features may be unavailable or behave unexpectedly.

Supported Devices

Natter can be accessed from:

  • Desktop computers

  • Laptops

  • Tablets

  • Mobile devices

While Natter supports mobile devices, a desktop or laptop is recommended whenever possible as it provides access to the widest range of features and controls.

Cameras, Microphones & Audio Devices

Natter supports most commonly used audio and video devices, including:

  • Built-in webcams

  • External webcams

  • Built-in microphones

  • USB microphones

  • Wired headsets

  • Wireless headsets and earbuds

  • External speakers

Most modern devices will work without additional configuration.

If you are using multiple cameras, microphones, or audio devices, ensure the correct device is selected within Natter before joining a conversation.

Browser Permissions

Natter requires permission to access your camera and microphone.

When joining a session or running the Natter Tech Check, your browser may prompt you to grant access to these devices.

If permission is denied, Natter may be unable to:

  • Detect your camera

  • Detect your microphone

  • Transmit audio

  • Transmit video

Browser permissions are one of the most common causes of technical issues experienced by participants.

If you accidentally deny access, permissions can usually be re-enabled through your browser settings before rejoining the session.

Browser Extensions & Privacy Tools

Some browser extensions, privacy tools, VPNs, or security software may interfere with camera access, microphone access, or real-time connectivity.

If you experience unexpected issues, consider:

  • Temporarily disabling browser extensions

  • Testing in a private/incognito window

  • Running the Natter Tech Check

  • Testing from an alternative browser

Mobile Device Considerations

Natter supports participation from mobile devices, however some functionality may differ from the desktop experience depending on the device, browser, and operating system being used.

For important sessions, we recommend using a desktop or laptop wherever possible.

Confirming Compatibility

The easiest way to confirm that your browser, device, camera, microphone, and network are compatible with Natter is to run the Natter Tech Check before joining a session.

The Tech Check takes approximately two minutes to complete and can identify potential issues before they affect a live event.
